Ilona Andrews, #1 New York Times bestselling author A space princess on the run and a notorious outlaw soldier become unlikely allies in this imaginative, sexy space opera adventure-the first in an exciting science fiction trilogy. ![]() Polaris Rising is space opera at its best, intense and addictive, a story of honor, courage, betrayal, and love. ![]() ![]() ![]() It reminded me a lot of Colleen Houck’s Terraforma (that, I can recommend heartily). The overall plot is definitely fun – I think the skeleton structure of the book is good and has so much potential. I’m not sure I really have a favourite character because of this blur between them. This hardly ever bothers me but I think because they were virtually all the same character copy and pasted with occasional differences, I was constantly flipping back to the beginning of the chapter to work out who was who. Speaking of characters, my god we get all seven perspectives on rotation. But it’s troped-up to the eyeballs and I think there are about two personalities between all seven characters. ![]() I made it to the end though, and after the halfway mark (with much encouragement from friends) I set aside my differences and just embraced the clichéd sass-pit that was this book. Unfortunately, I think this was closer to the latter. Why Boubat’s “petite fille aux feuilles mortes jardin du Luxembourg Paris 1946” and the leaf covered Autumn girl came to mean so much to Daniel, and is so key to the Quartet. Who lead Daniel to his love for Chaplin ![]() What inspired the lyrics of the one-hit wonder Daniel penned (the copyright fees for which, sourced by Elisabeth paid his nursing home fees) and the story behind who co-wrote the song. Wendy, Elisabeth, Zoe, Daniel, Hannah, Adrienne Albert, Klein, Pauline Boty - from AutumnĬharlotte, Art, Iris, Sophia (in memory), Barbara Hepworth - from Winter Summer uses the characters of Autumn and Winter to explore the themes of Spring (while also making it clear that those themes ran through the full quartet) through a new shared experience for us all. ![]() ![]() ![]() Immense as a mountain, the ancient Tower holds unnumbered ringdoms, warring and peaceful, stacked one on the other like the layers of a cake.
